Sprint has announced that they will be offering a new WiFi Wimax 4G BlackBerry PlayBook which will be available at some point during the fall. This new PlayBook was supposed to be released during the summer, but RIM has since announced that it will likely be postponed.
When you visit the announcement page on the Sprint site for the 4G PlayBook, you are taken to another splash page for a WiFi only PlayBook. However, the WiFi only PlayBook will be available only through September 8th for a price of $499. After that it will be discontinued, which indicates that Sprint will likely release the new PlayBook around this time. Samsung has received approval from the FCC for a new phone which will run on the Sprint network, given that it has been approved for WiFi Wimax and CDMA/EvDO. The phone, known for now as SPH-D710, also won approval for dual-band Wireless-N WiFi and Bluetooth.
The rumors are that this device is the Sprint version of the Galaxy S II, since its specs seem to match up perfectly with some leaked photos of this phone which were previously published online. The Sprint verseion of the phone is both taller rand wider than the European model which is already being shipped. While Samsung has been keeping details about the new phone quiet, the FCC filing is a good indication that it will hit North American stores soon, probably within the month of August.

The London bus network has announced plans to enable WiFi Wimax access on buses in the city by 2012. The plan would extend the WiFi access which is already available at 120 London underground stations onto buses so that passenger will be able to trade their books and magazines for laptops.
The rollout will be made possible by Virgin Media, which is planning on offering basic WiFi service throughout t he city of London just in time for the Olympics. Some coach services in the city such as the Oxford Tube already offer free WiFi service so they provide a good model to build off of. Virgin may be leaning towards deploying the network via WiFi broadband routers installed inside curbside cabinets. The city bus service is also working on apps which will provide real time bus timetable info for smartphone and tablet users.
