WiFi Wimax on London Buses

The London bus network has announced plans to enable WiFi Wimax access on buses in the city by 2012. The plan would extend the WiFi access which is already available at 120 London underground stations onto buses so that passenger will be able to trade their books and magazines for laptops.
The rollout will be made possible by Virgin Media, which is planning on offering basic WiFi service throughout t he city of London just in time for the Olympics. Some coach services in the city such as the Oxford Tube already offer free WiFi service so they provide a good model to build off of. Virgin may be leaning towards deploying the network via WiFi broadband routers installed inside curbside cabinets. The city bus service is also working on apps which will provide real time bus timetable info for smartphone and tablet users.
